Housing is a basic human right
Today is World Habitat Day, and to help raise awareness about housing issues across Canada, we’re launching Habitat Canada’s new podcast! There will be 10 podcasts released every Monday until December 3, kicking off today – World Habitat Day. Veteran radio broadcaster Dave Trafford interviews some amazing Habitat partners, including committed donors, international volunteers, politicians, HGTV star and Habitat supporter Scott McGillivray and some truly inspiring stories of Habitat homeowners. In our very first episode, we discuss how Habitat for Humanity Canada’s mission fits into the federal government’s National Housing Strategy – and how Habitat’s model of affordable homeownership solves critical housing needs in communities across Canada. It all begins with the premise that decent and affordable housing is a basic human right.
We’re joined by Mark Rodgers, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada (pictured above), and the Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Canada’s Minister of Families, Children and Social Development (pictured below). Minister Duclos’ portfolio oversees the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Canada’s National Housing Strategy.
