As a registered charity, Habitat for Humanity Canada is required to follow the guidelines established by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), which state that donations cannot be returned. When you make a donation, ownership of the funds transfers to the charity, and we are committed to using those resources to further our charitable mission.

While we generally do not issue refunds, there may be exceptional circumstances where this is considered. Such situations may include:

  • Credit card chargebacks or concerns regarding a charge
  • Disputes over the authorization of the transaction
  • Suspected fraud or misdirection involving the donation
  • Technical errors
  • Errors in donor data entry

If a refund is granted, we will cancel the original donation receipt issued to you. For further details on CRA guidelines, please visit the CRA website.

Should an error be made in the amount of any donation, the donor has 72 hours (three days) in which to notify Habitat for Humanity Canada by phone or email of the error. All requests for refunds must be made in writing by email to donations@habitat.ca. The request should have the details of the initial donation including the date, amount, name of the donor, and the nature of the error.
