Habitat Canada’s President and CEO on supporting the National Housing Strategy, the impact of COVID-19 and more on the Social Impact Advisors podcast
Habitat Canada’s President and CEO spoke with Lynn Fergusson of Social Impact Advisors podcast about her thoughts about priorities for the organization and how we can make a bigger impact particularly given COVID-19 and the effect it has had on us, as a retail organization, construction organization and community developer. Part of COVID-19’s impact is highlighting the need for people to have a safe, secure and affordable place to live.
“The other thing it’s pointing at is issues of density and unhealthy environments that many people are living in and the urgency to get them out of unhealthy environments into homes where they will be healthy,” says Julia. “To the extent that people are living in dense environments, which we’re all going to have to in big cities, how do we make those healthier and more resilient?”
Julia shares that it’s time to be collaborating and looking at fundraising, new financial tools and engaging more people and organizations in the need for affordable housing – looking at the different types of housing that are needed to meet the needs of people. And the support required from both the community and government, through avenues like the National Housing Strategy, to make more decent and affordable housing accessible to more Canadians.
