Habitat for Humanity Canada Response to May 20th, 2021 CBC Vancouver Story
Media Statement on behalf Julia Deans, President and CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada
Habitat for Humanity Canada (Habitat Canada) supports 50 local Habitat organizations across the country to bring communities together and partner with families to build strength, stability and independence through affordable homeownership. Each local Habitat operates independently within guidelines, and manages its family application process, homebuilding operations and ReStores locally.
Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver has recently received notice of a legal dispute involving two or their partner families. They issued a statement in response to this earlier today which can be found here.
The best interests of the families we serve is our utmost priority at Habitat Canada, and we take seriously any concerns raised by any local Habitat organization’s partner families. The last thing we ever want is for a local Habitat to be at odds with a partner family. Based on our understanding of this situation, we believe that Habitat Greater Vancouver is working with the families in question in good faith to try and resolve this matter. We will continue to monitor the situation and do what we can to help the parties involved come to a mutually agreed upon resolution.
