Our team will work alongside local staff and homeowners in Sabana Grande de Boyá, Dominican Republic.
Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic has worked alongside families and communities to improve access to safe and decent housing. Having supported more than 196,000 families across the country, Habitat Dominican Republic continues to address housing challenges through practical, sustainable solutions that improve living conditions and promote healthier communities.
Global Village is a meaningful short-term international volunteer experience with opportunities around the world. By working closely with Habitat country programs, volunteer groups partner with local communities, building or improving homes as part of Habitat's vision of a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. Upon return, Global Village participants become champions for resilient housing and advocates for Habitat's work.
The Housing Need in the Dominican Republic
Despite the Dominican Republic's thriving tourism industry and economic development, many families continue to face significant housing challenges, particularly in rural communities. Families may live in overcrowded or inadequately constructed homes with limited access to safe drinking water, sanitation and other essential services.
One important housing challenge is the prevalence of dirt floors, which can contribute to unhealthy living conditions, particularly for children. Habitat Dominican Republic is working to address this issue through its involvement in the 100,000 Floors to Play initiative, a regional effort to replace dirt floors with concrete floors in vulnerable homes across Latin America and the Caribbean.
In communities such as Sabana Grande de Boyá, housing improvements can make a meaningful difference in the health, safety and well-being of families.
During this Global Village build, volunteers will work alongside Habitat Dominican Republic staff, skilled construction workers and local community members to support housing improvements. Construction activities may include mixing and pouring concrete, preparing building materials and assisting with other tasks identified by the local team.
Beyond construction, volunteers will have opportunities to learn about Dominican culture, connect with community members and better understand how access to safe and decent housing contributes to stronger communities.

Meet Neetash Patel!
My name is Neetash Patel and this will be my 15th build with Global Village. I am excited for you to join me on this adventure and forge the passion for international community development.
Habitat for Humanity has been a tremendous connection for me, combining my love for travel, exercise, food & philanthropy. Whether in our own backyard or on the world stage, there is nothing more satisfying in the charity world than seeing the results of your time, money, and effort. These builds are just that. Getting off the typical tourist path to see a part of the world & way of life many of us simply read about or unaware of. With your help, we are changing the course of one family's life trajectory. Their safety, hygiene, kids’ education, dignity and so much are addressed by the Habitat charity. In addition to that feat, we support the local economy, bring aid to those that might never receive any and actively help to shape & unite the globe.
Please feel free to contact me to learn more about this build, hear stories of past ones or joining one in the future. Looking forward to meeting you in the Dominican Republic in March 2027!
