Partner spotlight: CMHC
When we work together, we can create real solutions to Canada’s housing crisis.
That’s why our strategic partnership with CMHC is a game-changer. It combines our expertise as Canada’s only national non-profit affordable housing provider with CMHC’s knowledge as Canada’s leading authority on housing.
804 new homes, built on partnership
Thanks to $65 million in forgivable loans from CMHC, we are building more than 800 new affordable, accessible, and energy-efficient homes between 2019 and 2026. This funding includes:
- 600 homes supported by $45 million from CMHC’s Affordable Housing Fund
- 200 homes built with $20 million through the Black Canadian families agreement, which ensures affordable homeownership opportunities for families that self-identify as Black and helps close Canada’s racial homeownership gap.
Sustainable, future-ready homes
Affordable homes must be built to last – meaning they can meet the needs of homeowners now and in the future.
Through our partnership with CMHC, the homes we are building are on track to:
- be more energy efficient by reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by at least 25%, compared to the 2015 National Building Code.
- be more accessible by exceeding CMHC’s requirement to have 20% of new homes be fully accessible or meet universal design standards. This will ensure a strong supply of accessible and affordable homes without requiring costly renovations.
Stronger communities, built together
Our relationship with CMHC is a catalyst for other partnerships that maximize support for affordable homeownership across the country. Every home-building project also includes:
- support from another level of government (provincial, territorial, or municipal)
- contributions from donors and investors who believe in the power of affordable homeownership
Your company can leverage our partnership with CMHC to maximize support for affordable homeownership across the country.
