Habitat for Humanity Canada's
Women Build Program promotes
the involvement of women in the construction of Habitat houses.

What's in a "Women Build" Name?

When Habitat for Humanity International began with the first women build the name had to be considered carefully. The program was to be inclusive, not exclusive, when considering all volunteers, and hence the name. Women Build is about building a home or homes, with a focus on promoting women as leaders and more importantly, to provide an opportunity for women to learn new trades or skills, under the direction of both men and women skilled tradespersons. A Women Build includes all the benefits of our regular HFHC builds but adds a twist by focusing on the encouragement of women to get involved in what is considered an otherwise male profession. Women Build is about women who build or who have always wanted to build. It is about spirit, fun, learning, and a whole lot of pride in working with a family to build a place they can call home.
