Announcing the Winners of the 2009 Rio Tinto Alcan Sustainable Homes Programme Award
Long-time Partner, Rio Tinto Alcan, Invests in Sustainable Homebuilding for Canadian Families in Need
Rio Tinto Alcan has been a valued partner of Habitat for Humanity Canada (HFHC) since 2004, and this year their continued support and promotion of sustainable construction and efficient energy use has led to a creative grant award program: the Rio Tinto Alcan Sustainable Homes Programme. This initiative focuses on the promotion of safer and more sustainable building practices for Habitat affiliates across Canada, and it provides them the opportunity to share best practices and inspire each other to raise the bar as leaders in sustainability.

Habitat have accomplished together. | Through this innovative incentive program, Rio Tinto Alcan has awarded a total of $200,000 in financial donations to Habitat affiliates this year and, as such, has empowered a new level of excellence for affordable homebuilding in Canada. With 22 affiliate participants in its first year, the program was incredibly successful. Applicants were judged on three key areas of building achievement: quality, safety and innovation.
