Long-time Supporter Once Again Engages Students in the True Meaning of "Home”
This fall, Habitat for Humanity Canada and our partner, Genworth Financial Canada, launched the 3rd annual Meaning of Home Contest, by asking students across Canada in grades 4, 5 and 6 to write what "home" means to them and entering to win the chance to choose the next community for a Habitat for Humanity home sponsored by Genworth Financial.

* New this year *:  YOU can be a part of the contest by voting for your favourite entry!!
Follow the contest closely this fall at

The Winning Entry:  A Chance to Define the Meaning of Home for a New Habitat Partner Family
The contest finalists are chosen on a regional basis and the top 3 or 4 entries will be selected from each region.

In December, you can go online to vote for your favourite entry, and each regional winner will get a prize of $5,000 for the community of their choice. As in the past, the grand prize winner will receive a new desktop computer, and, more importantly, the chance to provide the ultimate gift: a new Habitat home for a deserving family. Genworth will donate $60,000 towards the building of a new Habitat home in a community of the winner's choice.  We encourage all eligible students to enter the contest and make "home" happen for another Canadian family in need.

The 2,000 contest entries received last year provided a needed reminder of how very important "Home" is in shaping our lives. Genworth Financial Canada and Habitat for Humanity evoked another inspiring response from students in Canada yet again this year. Thank you to everyone who entered!

The 2009 Meaning of Home Contest accepted entries from October 5 to November 13, 2009.
