Help Needed in Chile After Major Earthquake
Habitat for Humanity will respond to a devastating 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Chile, 200 miles southwest of Santiago on February 27. Early reports indicate extensive damage to buildings and houses.

Habitat for Humanity is responding to the major earthquake which struck near Port-au-Prince on Tuesday, January 12 by addressing immediate relief efforts and long-term shelter solutions for families. Based on current information and past experience with international disasters, Habitat is planning a multiphase strategy that includes early recovery, and mid- and long-term responses.

Habitat for Humanity Canada Remembers Reverend George F. Anderson
The staff, board and volunteers of Habitat for Humanity in Canada mourn the passing of Reverend George F. Anderson, a key contributor to the establishment of Habitat for Humanity Canada. Reverend Anderson was a man of great faith, whose passion for helping people and making a difference led him to travel across Canada communicating the message of "A hand up, not a hand out”. His contributions to Canada, including his work as a pioneer of the Habitat for Humanity organization in Canada, led to his receiving the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Medal. After living life to it’s fullest, George passed away on June 26, 2009.
First Habitat Home in a First Nation Community
Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and Alderville First Nation are launching the first ever Habitat build in Canada in a First Nation community for a qualifying family. The construction for this home was launched on Saturday, May 30 at a community celebration and sod-turning event. The project is the result of a partnership between Alderville First Nation, Habitat for Humanity Northumberland and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation to address the challenges many families face in finding a safe, decent and affordable home.
CRA 2009 Information Sessions for Charities
Staff from the Canada Revenue Agency will be offering free sessions to a number of smaller communities across the country to help registered charities understand their obligations under the Income Tax Act. Sessions are delivered in the spring, typically May and June, and in the fall, in September and October. Registration for the Spring sessions will open on Aril 8th, 2009 and for the Fall sessions on August 10th, 2009.

While each of the major parties have presented plans that either restate previously-made commitments or provide band-aid solutions to the problem - none have presented a clear and comprehensive housing strategy that will drive new investment and energy into needed affordable housing initiatives.

The first Habitat home in Iqaluit, Nunavut has provided valuable awareness of the desperate need for housing solutions throughout Nunavut, as well as its "hidden homeless” - and the Partner Family’s move into a new home will open up another Public Housing unit for a family on the growing wait-list – currently at over 10% of the Nunavut population.

During a Rideau Hall reception on June 13, 2007, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean endorsed Habitat for Humanity through a public expression of support.
