Habitat for Humanity
Dear Friend of Habitat,

Welcome to our Inside Spirit fall edition: Thanksgiving is almost upon us, leaves are beginning to change, and our thoughts turn to pumpkin pie and bobbing for apples. This is also the time to be thankful for what we have, and to be reminded to give back to those who are underprivileged.

As the days grow colder, there is nothing like warming yourself up with a Timothy’s LatteBené – on Thursday, October 1st it’s our 4th Annual LatteBené Day. Treat yourself to one, and support Habitat for Humanity – how can you go wrong?

Monday, October 5 is UN World Habitat Day! Please commemorate this special day by giving a voice to the voiceless – let it be known that adequate housing should be made a priority everywhere.

Also, in this edition you’ll read about how children are able to turn words into homes – turning pencils into hammers, and pieces of paper into walls. Genworth Financial Canada’s “Meaning of Home” contest challenges students once again to express how very important home is in shaping their lives and the lives of others.

Thanks to your support, we can give a ‘hand up’ to families in need – helping them help themselves – and you’re helping build better communities in the process.

All the best,

Habitat for Humanity Canada

UN World Habitat Day October 5th
Celebrated by the United Nations and International Community Since 1985

World Habitat Day is intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility for the future of the human habitat. Over 1.3 million families in Canada are in need of affordable housing right now, and 1.6 billion around the world are living in homes that are not affordable, overcrowded, unsafe or all three. Please stand up on World Habitat Day, to give a voice to the voiceless, to let it be known that adequate housing should be made a priority everywhere – in your community, in your town, in your country, in our world.

Michelle Stoopler helped build homes using only words. Rewarding Experience Helps Habitat Volunteer
Habitat Changes Lives

Habitat for Humanity is doing more than just building homes; we help build hope and a future, thanks to your support. Rick Jeary tells of how his life changed in 2008 when he signed up to volunteer for Habitat. Donating his time and energy building homes for two families, after being laid off from work, and overcoming an addiction, he has now found his calling with a new career and a new outlook. Your support helps make these volunteer experiences possible!
