| Dear Friend of
Habitat,
This issue
explores, along with our partners and partner families, what it means
to build stronger communities.
In March of
this year, Delta Hotels and Resorts conducted a survey of Canadian
cities to find out what Canadians think makes a good neighbour – follow
the link below to read the results.
The
involvement of dedicated volunteers, donors, sponsors, affordable
housing advocates and partners – all of them neighbours with a desire
to help – continues to hearten our resolve and deepen our conviction to
work hand-in-hand to help those hardworking, low-income families
struggling with high housing costs and entrenched in a poverty cycle
that too few can escape. Thanks to your support, by providing
manageable mortgage payments, the Habitat for Humanity solution helps
these hardworking families build a solid foundation and thrive.
Warmest
Regards,
Habitat for

Habitat
Home Provides Accessibility for Eldest Fraboni Son
Phil
Fraboni played a key role in consulting with builders on the Fraboni’s
new Habitat home given his family’s needs – his oldest son, Thomas, has
cerebral palsy. Their previous rental house had some accessible
features, but there wasn’t room for Thomas to turn his wheelchair
around and many everyday items were out of reach. The family’s new home
gives Thomas independence and freedom. "It’s such a relief knowing he
can get around the house without any problems,” Phil said. "And now we
as a family have a place to call home, somewhere we hope to be for a
very long time.”
Phil’s wife was instrumental in getting their new home. While
she passed away three years ago, Phil says a part of his wife lives on
in their home.

Are You a 'Good
Neighbour'?
Delta
Hotels and Resorts Aims to Be Just That
This year, Delta
launched the "Good Neighbours Challenge” committing to an ambitious
goal of raising 10,000 volunteer hours and $1 million to support
neighbourhood charities from coast to coast, including Habitat for
Humanity. The Challenge demonstrates Delta’s commitment to
strengthening Canadian communities.
Delta Hotels and Resorts began a three-year partnership with
Habitat for Humanity Canada in 2009. In its first year, the hotel chain
exceeded fundraising goals and raised over $500,000 for Habitat
homebuilding activities across Canada! Additionally, Delta employees
participated on build sites from coast to coast in support of
affordable housing.

Microsoft
Software Donation Helps Habitat Reach Full Potential
As the world’s
largest software company, Microsoft has the capacity to help improve
the lives of people everywhere. Through an Unlimited Potential
software grant, Habitat for Humanity Canada has received in excess of
$1.3 million dollars worth of software and licenses for its 73
affiliates across Canada. This generous donation of software will allow
Habitat affiliates to improve their productivity, increase their
ability to collaborate and be more effective, and extend their impact.
We are very grateful to Microsoft Canada and their generous donation in
support of affordable housing and Habitat for Humanity.

Institute of Plumbing & Heating Gala Another Milestone Towards
Reaching 2011 Goal
Over 330 industry members and guests
attended the elegant 2010 CIPH Gala. Charity Committee Chairman John
Hammill (Moen) was very pleased to report that his committee is well on
their way to reaching the committed goal of $1.75 million by the end of
2011 – with $1,290,238 pledged by CIPH members to date, thanks in
large part to the annual Gala. This will bring the total donated to
Habitat for Humanity Canada since 1994 to over $6.39 million.
"CIPH members should be very proud of their association’s
amazing contributions to Habitat for Humanity Canada – together our
association is truly making a difference for many Canadian families in
need of affordable housing”, John Hammill stated.
