| Dear Friend of Habitat,
This year, Habitat for Humanity is celebrating 25 years in Canada – a celebration of all the work we’ve done together. And this celebration would not possible if not for all the volunteer hours logged, for the work of our affiliates across Canada, and for all the sorely needed donations to buy materials and land to build homes.
This milestone acts as a reminder of our purpose – to help families struggling below the low-income cut-off find hope and a stable, secure, safe and affordable home.
It is also a time to reflect and offer our sincerest thank you for your efforts in donating, advocating and helping build homes – but more importantly, thanks to everyone for building hope.
Warmest Regards,
Habitat for Humanity Canada |

Chile Earthquake: Habitat for Humanity’s Response
Habitat for Humanity Canada is mobilizing resources to address shelter solutions for families affected by the 8.8-magnitude earthquake which struck Chile on February 27, 2010. The earthquake left more than 1,000 people dead and missing in the central regions of Biobío, Maule, Metropolitan Santiago and Valparaíso where Habitat for Humanity Chile has regional offices and currently builds homes. More than 1.5 million homes suffered some damage, and over 500,000 homes suffered serious structural damage. Our ability to respond effectively to this disaster will require support from donors, volunteers, churches, corporate partners and other community organizations. Please make a tax-deductible donation today to help families rebuild and repair their homes!

Thanks for Your Support of Haiti!
Habitat for Humanity Canada is very grateful for the tremendous support Canadians have already provided towards its disaster response in Haiti. Habitat for Humanity expects to help 50,000 Haitian families who were affected by the devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake which struck near Port-au-Prince on January 12. "This is a bold goal for Habitat for Humanity, but the level of destruction and the number of families affected demands a bold response,” said Jonathan Reckford, Chief Executive Officer of Habitat for Humanity International. With more than 200,000 houses severely damaged or destroyed and 1.2 million people homeless or displaced, there is a very critical need for shelter. Habitat’s ambitious multi-year effort will include relief, rehabilitation and reconstruction. If you’ve yet to give, please help today!

Meaning of Home Contest Winner
Selected from over 1,500 submissions, a grade six student from St. John’s, Newfoundland will help build a home for a local family using only words. It was Kyle’s own experiences that opened his eyes to the need for affordable housing in Canada. As he wrote: "There are many, too many, families in the world without a home. It is even happening here in our backyards. On my street a Habitat house is being built right now… I can’t wait to see the family that moves in up the street and I hope they are happy now that they have a home.”
Congratulations also go out to the runners-up: Helen NG (Grade 5) of North York, Ontario; Wynn Toronitz (Grade 5) of Brentwood Bay, British Columbia; Valerie Chevrier (Grade 5) of Cornwall, Ontario; Maude Blondeau (Grade 5) of Princeville, Quebec; Ali Abdulla (Grade 4) of Chestermere, Alberta.
