How to Apply
We at Global Village are thrilled that you are thinking about joining us. Before you go any further in the application process we would like you to take a few minutes to read over the following. One of the keys to a rewarding Global Village experience starts now by making sure you understand what you are signing up for. Once you have applied and been accepted on a trip you will receive a detailed orientation manual and more information about your particular destination. Here are some important pieces that will help you decide if Global Village is for you.
Our Purpose Habitat for Humanity Canada’s Vision is a world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live. One of the ways we strive to realize that Vision is through the organization of international Global Village work teams.
Cost Global Village participants must cover all of their own expenses including in-country costs, airfare, travel insurance and a $650 donation to further Habitat’s mission in the hosting country and support the Global Village program. Charitable donation receipts will be issued for all eligible trip contributions.
Refund Policy Donations and payments are transferable to another GV trip but are not refundable.
Minor Policy Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or be part of a trip organized by a sponsoring agency (such as a church or school). Please note that participants must be 15 years of age, and those under the age of 18 may not be able to take part in all of the various construction activities.
Selection Process The team leader will select their team from a pool of applicants after they have had the opportunity to get to know them through a phone interview. Selection is based on various criteria depending on the leader and destination and is not on a “first come, first serve” basis.
What We Expect To ensure a successful and productive Global Village experience it is important that everyone understands what will be expected of them by both Habitat for Humanity and their team. Please read the Team Member Agreement which you will see during the on-line application process.
Personal Health Work assignments normally involve strenuous physical activity, sometimes at high altitude or in extreme heat. Team members must be in good physical health and if you have any doubts you should consult your physician.
Safety
Participant safety and security is Habitat’s primary concern, however, international travel and working on a construction site always contain some degree of risk. Every participant is ultimately responsible for their own safety and will be required to sign a waiver stating that they are participating at their own risk.
Passport
For any international travel, you will need a current passport that is valid for at least six months beyond your travel dates.
Application
You only need to complete one application, regardless of the number of trips that you are applying for. Your choice of destination(s) and date(s) will be matched with available trips, and you will be notified accordingly.
