The Affordable Homeownership Policy Network
November 21, 2005

Habitat for Humanity Canada, along with a number of other private sector and non-profit groups, is in the process of introducing a new and innovative approach to addressing housing policy through dialogue and information sharing specific to Affordable Homeownership in Canada.

An Interim Management Committee for the implementation of the Affordable Homeownership Policy Network (AHPN) is working toward the formal launch of the AHPN in early 2006. One of the keys to the successful start-up and sustainability of this network will be a large and diversified membership. If you are interested in learning more about the AHPN and potentially becoming a member, please register here.

Background information:

Habitat for Humanity Canada, with the support of CMHCand the Voluntary Sector Initiative, hosted an invitational summit dedicated to addressing affordable homeownership in Canada and strengthening the policy capacity of voluntary and community based organizations associated with affordable homeownership.

The goals of the Summit were:

  • 1) to build an affordable homeownership policy agenda
  • 2) to strengthen the capacity of voluntary and community organizations to engage in policy dialogue
  • 3) to understand the relationship between affordable homeownership issues, policies and political readiness for change, and
  • 4) to examine and, if feasible, develop an affordable homeownership network.

To help delegates prepare for their deliberations, three pre-summit reports were prepared and are available here in PDF format:

Key leaders and organizations were invited from many facets of the critical path toward affordable homeownership, including policy making, planning, financing, construction, management, community development, training, education and research. See Delegate List.

The Final Summit Program provides a link to available speaker’s MS PowerPoint presentations.

A Post-Summit Summary Report is now available, providing information about specific presentations and discussions during the Summit. See Post-Summit Report.
